Medical Laser Safety Officer Course Registration

This course is designed to provide operating room personnel with a foundation of laser biophysics, tissue interaction, safety, and administrative responsibilities. Technical aspects, as well as established practices, will be reviewed on the multi-wavelength lasers. Laser safety protocols will be addressed according to the ANSI 136.3 – 2024 “Safe Use of Lasers in the Healthcare Facilities Standards,” and the AORN Laser Safety Guidelines 2020.

  • Upon completion of this session, you will be able to/have:
  • Discuss the fundamentals of laser tissue interaction and the science of laser physics.
  • Describe the systems used to classify lasers and laser products according to the degree of hazard.
  • An understanding of the guidelines and procedures required for the safe use of lasers in their practice.
  • An understanding of the other (non-radiation) hazards associated with lasers (i.e. electrical hazards, laser plume).
  • Discuss the engineering, procedural, and administrative controls based upon evaluation of potential hazards from laser radiation.
  • Discuss unique problems related to operating rooms, outpatient clinics, mobile laser units, and private medical and dental offices.
  • List several precautions taken for using energy sources for head, neck, and chest procedures.
  • Describe the roles and responsibilities of the healthcare professionals utilizing lasers.

Cancellation Policy

Registrations can be canceled and a refund issued, minus a $50 administrative fee, if the cancellation is made at least 10 business days before your course begins.

Cancellations made within 10 business days of the course are non-refundable; however, it may be rescheduled for a future course at no additional cost, provided it is completed within 12 months of the original course date.

Failure to attend the course and failure to provide notice prior to the start date will result in forfeiture of the entire course fee.

Yes, this course has been validated by Board of Laser Safety (BLS) to meet the training pre-requisite to sit for the Certified Medical Laser Safety Officer Exam. It is also approved for (15) CEUs by the California Board of Registered Nursing. OR Today has been approved and is licensed to be a Continuing Education Provider with the State of California Board of Registered Nursing; License No. CEP 16623.
